The EXIT artistic quarterly has been permanently coming out since the spring of 1990. Thus, it is one of the oldest periodical magazines of this type on the Polish art press market.
At the beginning, the quarterly was yet another, specific form of the Warsaw Promotion Gallery (Galeria Promocyjna) activity. Gradually, it has grown to become an independent media publication. Published and subsidized then by the Old Town Cultural Center (Staromiejski Dom Kultury), for the recent 5 years it has been the basic statutory task of the EXIT Foundation.
The Editorial Board, supported by a large group of cooperating authors, has remained unchanged since the very start. In the period of all these years, the EXIT published more than 700 authors; both well known and experienced art critics, as well as the most recent academy graduates.
An essential objective of the magazine is to accompany the Polish contemporary art scene; its multiple shades and phenomena. This task mainly involves registering and documenting the most essential - in the Editors opinion - events; positive and deserving attention.
Annual EXIT awards reflect the artistic preferences favored by the magazine. The so far winners list includes: Eugeniusz Markowski, Wojciech Prażmowski, Jerzy Truszkowski, Leszek Golec & Tatiana Czekalska, Jarosław Modzelewski, Józef Robakowski, Piotr Wachowski i Krzysztof M. Bednarski.
The award is of a token nature - a figurine sculpted by Sylwester Ambroziak and an exhibition of the works by the winner at the Promotion Gallery.
Through all these years, the group of our closest cooperating partners - who have been contributing to the final message conveyed by the magazine - have remained unchanged; i.e., graphic design studio and the PWR printing house.
The EXIT's range of interests covers a whole spectrum of the most recent phenomena in the area of experimental film, photography, new electronic media and last but not least, visual arts, in the wide sense of the term.
By 2014, EXIT is financed by The Ministry of Culture and National Heritage in Poland.
